  • European Day of Languages

    Fri 29 Sep 2017 Mrs Cox-Wall

European Day of Languages was Tuesday 26th September and we celebrated this in The Bridge by enjoying a very tasty continental breakfast, organised by Mr Karby. We had meats, cheeses, croissant and pain au chocolat mmmmm.....

In Form Time we had a language quiz and other games to test and improve our knowledge of French, German, Spanish and some other less well known tongues!

    Thankyou Mr Karby no

  • Listening to Learners

    Sun 24 Sep 2017 Mrs Cox-Wall

An important part of school life is listening to learners. This means we ask pupils to share their views, their ideas and of course, make requests! All these ideas come forward to School Council which meets monthly.

There are whiteboards around for suggestions and form time is the main opportunity for discussion and putting forward items for the School Council. This ensures all classes have the chance to get involved which is important as learners have the right to be heard (Article 12 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child).

The first meeting was Friday and officers were elected from KS4 for this school year:

    Chair person - Dylan

    Secretary - Layla

    Treasurer - Chloe

Each officer was issued one of our new, smart, blue School Council badges so peers can identify who they are. Our School Council board will also be updated.

There were several interesting discussions and each key stage put ideas forward, the focus being on rewards for effort and achievement:

Winners' Wednesday (KS2) were interested in craft, special board games, baking, gardening, dancing, movies and singing.

KS3 were interested in end of term trips to Winter Wonderland, Big Pit, seeing a show, going to the beach, Plantasia, horse riding and seeing Santa (awwww...)

KS4 had similar thoughts but were also interested in the music workshops we had last year, sports and games and cooking.

All of these will be discussed by Senior Leadership Team and communicated back to students...budget dependant!

Well done everyone and thanks for participating.

  • Right of the Month

    Thu 14 Sep 2017 Mrs Cox-Wall

Right of the Month for September is Article 28, the Right to an Education. This is particularly important for staff and learners at the Bridge because nearly all our learners join us at a troubled time or perhaps during a crisis, having missed education for health reasons or not been able to access an appropriate education due to other barriers.

We achieved Recognition of Commitment stage in March 2017 and by working hard to raise the profile of children's rights in all aspects of school life and ensuring our daily practice and policy reflects our commitment, we hope to achieve Stage 1 in spring term 2018.

Parents and Carers have been introduced to Rights Respecting Schools and it is also supported by the Management Committee at the Bridge.

  • Welcome back to school everyone!

    Thu 07 Sep 2017 Mrs Cox-Wall

The first week back is nearly over!

We have welcomed back several "old" students into our mental health and anxious non attenders provision, they have settled in well to their new classes and are using the new school planners straight away.

We have held planning meetings for new starters in our revolving door provision for KS2 and 3 and the meetings for the new KS4 pupils joining the new Education Other Than At School (EOTAS) are next week. The corridors will soon be buzzing!

Over the holidays, work has been completed to ventilate the large room we use for drama, to repair a damaged wall and to install a projector and new furniture in the EOTAS room.

We also congratulate Delyth Hughes on the arrival of her new baby daughter this week, Michelle Joyner will be covering her maternity leave and continuing her ALNCO role across the Bridge.

Enjoy some snaps of veg from our garden, well done Mrs Morris and assistants!
