Welcome to The Bridge Alternative Provision

Croeso i Ddarpariaeth Amgen Y Bont

The Bridge Alternative Provision Portfolio Pupil Referral Unit is a specialist provision for learners (both primary and secondary age) who have social or emotional  difficulties and at times behavioural difficulties. This is often referred to as "BESD".

On the Bryncethin Campus, shared with Ysgol Bryn Castell, The Bridge accommodates learners in nuanced provisions for diagnosed mental health conditions and diagnosed medical conditions which mean a learner cannot attend their mainstream school. We also accommodate learners who have challenging behaviour and may benefit from a term's specialist intervention to support a return to their mainstream school.

All pupils are referred to 1 of 2 monthly panels for placement here and all pupils remain on the roll of their mainstream school.

The Bridge offers a broad and balanced curriculum in very attractive and well resourced classrooms, we have excellent sports facilities, common room and dining spaces.

Regular pupil surveys show nearly all pupils feel safe and happy in The Bridge and that they make progress during their time in The Bridge. All our pupils leave with a positive destination suited to their needs.

Also part of The Bridge is the specialist mental health unit, Ty Llidiard, based at Princess of Wales Hospital, which provides bespoke education for learners admitted to hospital with acute mental health difficulties from all over South Wales.

Pupils from across BCBC who are not attending  school for a range of reasons are supported by a dedicated Educated Other Than At School (EOTAS) specialist teacher, Christian Prygodzcic. Chris is part of The Bridge portfolio and works closely with Inclusion Service teams to support pupils to access appropriate education in a timely way. Chris also provides liaison and support for pupils with BESD needs placed on the Junior Apprenticeship programme with Bridgend College from our 9 secondary schools.

The Behaviour and Wellbeing Outreach team is now known as the BESD/ASD/SALT team and is managed by Kate Clarke within the Inclusion Service.
